Insurance Reconstruction

Insurance Reconstruction in Kitsap County

When the mitigation crew packs up, someone still has to rebuild. We are the licensed general contractor who picks the job up at that handoff — writing the reconstruction scope, negotiating it with your adjuster, and rebuilding your home to its pre-loss condition.

The Rebuild After the Cleanup — Handled by One Contractor

Mitigation stops the damage. Reconstruction puts your home back together. Kitsap Restoration & Remodel is the licensed general contractor for that second half — the part that decides how your house actually ends up.

Most fire and storm claims stall in the same place: the mitigation company finishes the board-up, extraction and cleanup, the adjuster issues a scope, and the homeowner is left holding a partial payment with no builder lined up. Weeks disappear there — weeks you are usually paying to live somewhere else.

We close that gap. We write our own line-item reconstruction estimate rather than working only from the carrier’s scope, we review what is actually behind the drywall before the number is agreed, and we carry the job through permits, trades and finishes to the final walkthrough. One licensed contractor, one project manager, one point of accountability.

And it is your call who does it. Under Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner guidance, you have the right to select your own contractor — your insurer may recommend a preferred vendor, but it cannot require you to use one.

What's Included

Insurance reconstruction is the rebuild phase of a claim — everything that happens after the property is stabilized and dried. We handle the estimate, the negotiation, the permits and the construction, and we document it all so the scope your adjuster approves matches the work your home actually needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose my own contractor for an insurance rebuild?
Yes. The Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner is clear that you have the right to select your own contractor to complete work on your home. Your insurer may recommend contractors from a preferred vendor list, but it cannot require you to use them. You can accept insurer-dispatched emergency mitigation and still choose a different company for the rebuild.
Mitigation is the emergency phase — board-up, tarping, water extraction, structural drying, and smoke and soot cleanup. Reconstruction is the rebuild that returns your home to its pre-loss condition: framing, electrical and plumbing repair, drywall, cabinetry, flooring and paint. They are separate scopes, usually billed separately, and often handled by different companies.
Yes. We document the damage, write our own line-item reconstruction estimate, and negotiate the scope with your adjuster so the approved figure reflects the work the property actually needs — including what is found once finishes come off.
For essentially any reconstruction work, yes. Structural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical repairs all require permits, issued by the Kitsap County Department of Community Development or by your city if you are inside Bremerton, Port Orchard, Poulsbo or Bainbridge Island limits. We pull the permits and coordinate the inspections.
It depends on scope. A single smoke-damaged room can be a few weeks; a structural rebuild commonly runs several months. Permit review, material lead times and trade availability all affect the schedule, so we give you a timeline that names those steps rather than a single figure. Call 360-620-7264 to talk it through.
